1st DIGS-BB Alumni Reunion

Recap

In November 2021, we hosted our first Alumni reunion for DIGS-BB Alumni and active members. The hybrid event, originally planned for November 2020, spanned an interactive program of two days and included scientific talks, soft skills workshops as well as career path talks covering many facets of the job market after taking off from DIGS-BB. For more insight, please scroll down and get a glimpse at the program features and speakers.

Due to a last-minute change of Covid regulations, the event was changed to 75 % online participation two days before the reunion. However, we had very well attended events over all and enthusiastic exchange about science, walks of life and memories of Dresden times. The socializing aspect had to be cut down to the minimum due to restrictions in the hygienic concept – the feedback questionnaire showed that the majority hopes for an in-person event in the near future to catch up in real life.

Despite those hurdles, all reunion events ended with intense exchange. We want to thank all speakers and attendees once more for taking their time and look forward to keeping in touch about the Alumni Program!

How to Launch – from scientific idea to startup

… introduced to the decision-making process, the entrepreneurial risk and sometimes long breath it might take to create a product, find the right approach and point in time to go into business and attract customers.

After an overview on starting a science enterprise by dresden|exists’ Iris Steinebrunner, we had the opportunity to hear about the becoming of RecTech, a startup launching just now. Frank Buchholz and Felix Lansing introduced the decision-making process and sometimes long breath it might take to create a product.

DyNAbind, a niche enterprise founded by DIGS-BB Alumni Michael Thompson and Francesco Reddavide celebrates their 5th birthday already. Their company offers DNA-Encoded Libraries to drug discovery labs of all sizes. Michael offered insight into challenges coming after the startup phase when it is all about long- term sustainability and settling in the market. Oliver Wüseke offered insights into a different approach where the focus lies on a customer needs analysis before shaping the service or product in juxtaposition to finding a target audience after product development.

Speakers:
