Apartment support for new predocs
Since the Student Association guesthouse is overwhelmed by the arrival of undergrad students, we need to look for alternative housing for our new PhDs coming in this Fall.
If you have a room to spare or your flat to share for any period longer than 2 weeks in the time from late August to November, please let us know. Vera would then connect you with the new Predoc, orange a subletting contract and communicate with the landlord accordingly.
If you generally plan to leave Dresden in Fall, please get in touch as well – Vera would get you set up with a new student to take over the remaining months of rent after cancellation, or negotiate about cancelling slightly later and let a newcomer stay there with the possible option of takeover.
Residence permit
To avoid urgencies, please check the validity of your residence permit, specifically before travelling. It is always good to have at least a month more validity than your expected return date to Dresden – flights get cancelled, you might get sick, etc.
In case you need to extend the permit, write to akzess@dresden.de about it including your permit expiration date and travel plans.
Travel health insurance
You are covered through your federal health insurance card (TK, AOK plus, Barmer, etc.) within the European Union. Please make sure to get a travel health insurance (starting at 10EUR per year for singles covering trips up to 90 days) before leaving for a distant destination.
Pandemic rules in Europe
Please always check the regulations of the countries you plan to visit, German, Austria and most other European countries are taking it easy for the summer months, but there are exceptions. Check the rules for European countries on reopen.europa.eu
